The set of indicators that form the Index represents the essential aspects and capabilities for the development of Brazilian states, so that, when put together, they build the basis for state competitiveness and productivity growth
The Strategies for the Development of Clusters in Ceará are an initiative of the Industry Observatory, jointly carried out with SEBRAE, aiming at elaborating diagnoses and defining action strategies for the productive clusters of the state. This initiative is an offshoot of the Strategic Sector Routes project, in which the importance of fostering the development of productive clusters to build the future in strategic sectors and areas was highlighted.
The Sociodemographic Study aims to structurally analyze the Northeast region’s main social and economic variables. The analysis summarizes the most relevant data through infographics, making the content attractive and easily understood. The Study has an annual periodicity, allowing a comparison of the evolution of the data.
They consist of an analysis of the economic and/or sectoral environment of a location, with conjunctural information on the main variables available. They aim to draw a summarized picture of the main economic indicators of the states, focusing on Ceará. Estimates of the data are also performed. They function as a source of information to support entrepreneurs and governments in decision-making, as well as constituting a relevant study for society in general.
The Letters of Conjuncture are detailed conjunctural analyzes with a regional focus. They aim to draw a summarized picture of the main economic variables of the northeastern states, enabling a comparison between them. The Letters are published quarterly and constitute a relevant study for both industrialists and society in general.
The Industrial Panorama presents a summary table of indicators of economic conjuncture (eg GDP, employment, production, and trade) with a focus on Industry. The survey brings information from Ceará and Brazil, being released two months after the reference month due to the period of availability of data by the institutions.
It aims to prepare scenario projections for employment and industrial production in the state of Ceará, based on secondary data and surveys of entrepreneurs’ perceptions. The existing information in the study allows companies to understand both the current economic situation and to plan for both optimistic and pessimistic possibilities in the short term.

The research portrays the conjunctural picture by comparing the industrial sector of Ceará with the Brazilian average. For this, it presents the evolution of the main sectorial indicators: revenue, hours worked, personnel employed, utilization of installed capacity, and salaries. The publication is released 2 months after the reference date.
They aim to obtain detailed information about the companies through primary surveys carried out with industrialists. This way, analyses of the business, sector, and economic context are prepared. They also provide a personalized report to entrepreneurs with information to support decision-making and attract investments, take advantage of business opportunities and explore emerging technological trajectories, through relevant topics such as sustainable practices, innovation culture, and technology adoption, among others.
Innovation and the adoption of new technologies are fundamental for increasing the productivity of companies and for gaining competitiveness in the country. Knowing this, the World Bank, in partnership with the Industry Observatory, developed a methodology to measure the sophistication of the technologies most intensively used by local companies and to identify several aspects related to this use, such as the motivations and barriers to the adoption of more advanced tools.
The Qualification of Industrial Technological Demand survey was an initiative included in the Program for Industrial Innovation (P2i) and aims to provide an overview of the industry’s demand for technology and innovation. In this version, the strategic sectors were prioritized: Agrifood, Electro-metal-mechanical, Paper, Paper and printing products, Plastics and Rubber, and Chemicals.
Technology is increasingly present in people’s daily lives. In order to move towards digital transformation, it is important for the company to identify what level it is in, in order to outline and prioritize strategies that increase its competitiveness. With this in mind, the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), through the Industry Observatory, carried out a survey to assess the degree of business maturity in relation to digital transformation in Ceará. The results can be accessed here.
The research was carried out with entrepreneurs in order to promote issues related to sustainability among industries in the state of Ceará and to promote their competitiveness in the current and future scenarios. 420 personalized diagnoses, 1 State Sustainability Profile, and 9 Sector Profiles were made available. Its last edition took place in 2017.
The research aimed to analyze and boost research, development, and innovation activities in Ceará’s industries as well as contribute to placing the state in a competitive position in the national and international scenario. As feedback to the respondent, the project generated a diagnosis that positioned the company in relation to the researched innovation process. 854 individual diagnoses were made available in its two editions.
